Penzance Primary School Admission Policy

Penzance Primary School established in 1920, is a school rich in history and tradition and embraces the concept of Emotional Intelligence within a loving, caring environment.

We offer a full academic programme and wide range of sporting and cultural activities, to cater for the diverse needs of our learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7.

A professional complement of support staff (i.e.) an Occupational and Speech Therapist, Remedial Specialist, Educational Psychologist and two fully qualified counselors are available on campus.

In serving the educational needs of the community in which this school is situated, this Admission Policy, drawn up by the School Governing Body in consultation with the Principal and the School Management Team, forms the basis on which learners are admitted to this school. However this policy remains dependent on the requirements as laid down by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.

Any deviation from the norm and final selection will be made by the Principal in consultation with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education with the approval of the School Governing Body.

Admission Procedure

  • Application for Admission Forms are available from Reception. These applications open in February each year and close on 31 October of that year. As per Department policy.

  • The Application Forms must be filled in correctly and returned to the school without delay. When handing in the completed forms you are required to submit the following supporting documents:

However, an interview does not entitle any applicant to admission to Penzance Primary School as this decision is at the discretion of the Principal and in accordance with the South African Schools' Act No. 84 of 1996.

  • Once the interview has been conducted, you will receive a written response informing you whether or not your application to Penzance Primary School has been successful.

Please note:

All documentation must be complete and accurate. False information may result in the application being withdrawn.

Permanent residence within the school's preferred residential area i.e. between Queen Mary Avenue and Willowvale Road and from Umbilo Road upwards to the University.

Preferential admission may be considered for applicants who have siblings currently attending Penzance Primary School.
