Penzance boast a state of the art Aftercare and Homework Centre of approximately 1000m2. This magnificent facility nestles amongst the shady trees on the school grounds, running parallel to Nicolson Road and majestically overlooking the school's main field.
Mr Louis van Loon, the chosen architect set to work planning this facility ensuring that it be both child friendly and capable of accommodating the needs of the children and dedicated staff, providing a vital service for the parents of Penzance Primary.
A four-level, glass fronted building will play host to our children each afternoon. The Ground Floor will not only cater for the Foundation Phase children whilst at Aftercare but will also include a staffroom, toilets, sickroom, storerooms, a kitchen and an impressive amphitheatre which will be a venue to many of the school's cultural productions.
Stairways with aluminium balustrades invite one up to three other levels or mezzanine floors catering for the children's many needs. Levels Two and Three will again house groups of children whilst they complete their Homework tasks for the day, the huge windows affording them the opportunity of watching the sports fixtures being played on the field below.
Level Four plays host to a carpeted, sound proof reading room where the children can while away the afternoon reading their favourite novels. Audio-visual equipment will also be installed and available for use when inclement weather prevents them from playing outside in the sunshine.
A timber-plastic jungle gym with swings and a slide will also be available, with a climbing bridge leading to two tree-houses which will be built into the trees fronting the building.
To the right of this wonderful building will be a grassed area where other games and fantasies will be played out amongst the happy children who will spend their afternoon at school amongst their friends – a perfect ending to another happy day at Penzance.
