More than just a school

Penzance is a comprehensive school for the whole community. Our aim is to provide a service of the highest possible standard for everyone who is involved with the school.

We appreciate your interest in Penzance as a school of choice for your children. As a diverse and dynamic learning community, Penzance is committed to the care, development and growth of the whole person. We provide the best possible education, academically, socially and emotionally in a coeducational environment.

We are a traditional yet innovative school that has been committed to shaping the future through tradition, values and vision since 1920. Accommodating learners from Pre-School phase to Grade 7, Penzance prides itself as being regarded as the ‘Penzance Family’ and your child’s ‘home away from home’.

Our children are encouraged to function independently and assertively within a structured, disciplined environment that nurtures social and self-development. We believe that the teaching of values and morals are key to our successful ‘family unit’. These are instilled into our children through the teaching and practicing of Emotional Intelligence throughout the year.

With Reference to the SMS sent today - Wed 18 Aug

·         Penzance will be open from tomorrow.

·         Due to ongoing strike actions and a recent decision made by Naptosa to join the strike action, we believe that Our children are still at risk should they attend school.

·         In a Departmental Circular received today re closing of school, District Director Mr MG Ntombela stated that “Should a parent decide not to send a learner to school, that is the parent’s prerogative.” – We concur fully with his sentiments and request your considered decision in this regard

The following contingency prgramme has been developed to support all parents and their children.

1.       Academics

·         Further workbooks have been compiled over the past two days for each grade.

·         Forming part of the curriculum, these can be collected on Thursday and Friday between 6:30 and 4:00 for your convenience from the School Hall.

·         Completed workbooks are to be placed in boxes also in the hall for assessment by educators.

2.       Aftercare and Homework Centre

·         There will be NO Aftercare or Homework Centre until further notice.

3.       Interhouse Athletics Meeting and ExtraMural Activities

·         The Interhouse Athletic Meeting has been postponed. An alternative date will follow.

·         All sports fixtures and cultural activities as well as practices are postponed until further notice.

In the interests of our children, we thank you for your continued support and understanding. Updates will be posted regularly as and when they become available.

Yours sincerely,

Phillip Watkins
